🎉We congratulate Johannes Krause (Max-Planck-Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology) and Christian Doeller (Max Planck Institute for Human Cognitive and Brain Sciences) on being awarded the prestigious Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Prize by German Research Foundation (DFG). This means that two of the ten prizes went to Leipzig. We also congratulate Lars Meyer (Max Planck Institute for Human Cognitive and Brain Sciences) on receiving an ERC Consolidator Grant from the European Research Council (ERC). In addition to their work as MPI directors, Prof. Doeller and Prof. Krause are also honorary professors at the University of Leipzig.   

👉 Christian Doeller receives the award for his work in cognitive neuroscience and psychology, in which he investigates human thinking and, in particular, the connection between spatial perception and logical thinking.

👉 Johannes Krause receives the award for his contributions to archaeogenetics, in which he investigates the history of human settlement on different continents and the historical spread of infectious diseases.

👉 Lars Meyer will use the funding to further expand his groundbreaking work on language processing in the brain and use imaging techniques, computer-assisted analyses, and experiments to investigate when and why listening and understanding come easily to us.

These successes are also a tribute to the Max Planck Institute for Human Cognitive and Brain Sciences and the Max-Planck-Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology, whose outstanding work and scientific culture make these achievements possible! The awards and the ERC grant are an impressive testament to the research strength of Leipzig as a center of science and a boost to our national and international visibility and attractiveness.
